Review by hotel critic
Our family recently stayed at the Mytton and Mermaid, and while I had high hopes, the experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The picturesque setting draws you in, and the spacious room we had was certainly a plus; it was cozy enough for our little ones to play without feeling cramped. Our dining experience, however, left us wanting. Despite a friendly welcome, the service felt rushed, especially at breakfast. A few of us chose the share and carve meal, only to find the tomahawk beef chewy and fatty. The sticky toffee pudding was a hit with two family members, but the desserts overall lacked the quality we expected for the price. That said, the hotel offers family-friendly amenities, and the outdoor seating by the river provided a lovely spot for us to unwind while the kids explored. We appreciated the effort in making the environment welcoming for families. Though this stay was not perfect, the potential is certainly there. As a travel consultant, I believe with some fine-tuning, the Mytton and Mermaid could elevate the experience for families seeking both comfort and culinary enjoyment.
